WHAT CHEER — Ruth Walker, 87, of What Cheer, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will be held privately. Burial will be in the Barnes City Cemetery at Barnes City. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhome.com.
Ruth Arvilla Walker was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of James Myers and Olive McVay. She attended school in Oskaloosa and on Oct. 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Edward Walker. Over the years Ruth as a nurses aide, as a custodian at UIHC and a Clerk for the city of What Cheer. She also worked for Sig’s in Montezuma, Dyamatics and the Overall Factory. Ruth enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music and people watching.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward Walker; a son James Walker; a daughter Linda Walker; two brothers: Lowell and Orville Myers; a sister Norma Jean Hunt; a daughter in law Bonnie Walker; two grandsons: James and Clint Walker as well as a great-grandson.
Ruth is survived by two sons: Dale (Debra) Walker, of Thornburg, and David Walker, of Callao, Mo., as well as a daughter Marilyn Walker, of What Cheer. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
