---- — ALBIA — Hattie Lorene Gile, age 96, of Albia, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.
Lorene was born May 18, 1917, to Clarence and Laura (Christopher) Wood in Sumner, Mo. She married Charles “Chuck” Albert Gile on April 19, 1939. They shared 68 years of marriage before Chuck’s passing on July 28, 2007. Lorene graduated from Newton High School in 1936. She was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Chariton. She enjoyed dancing to big band music, doing board puzzles and word searches. She also liked to sew and do latch hook work.
Lorene is survived by two children, Richard (Carole) Gile, of Oskaloosa, and Carol (Terry) Reese, of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Sherrie Gile, of Oskaloosa, David (Kim) Gile, of Oskaloosa, Laura Reese, of Altoona, and Rick (Christine) Reese, of West Des Moines; six great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chuck; two brothers; and a sister.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. A private family burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Tharp Funeral Home, with Lorene’s family present.
