ALVA JUNIOR FISHER FEB. 28, 1943 -- DEC. 14, 2013

NEW SHARON — Alva Junior Fisher, 70, of New Sharon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at his home in New Sharon.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Alva Junior Fisher, the son of Alva and Alliemae (Carriker) Fisher, was born on Feb. 28, 1943, in Oskaloosa. He attended South Browntown Country School before graduating from North Mahaska High School in 1961. On July 2, 1966, Junior was united in marriage to Sharon Andrews in the Assembly of God Parsonage in Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born, Sherrie, Alan and Adam. Junior worked a few years for Manatts and the DX Station in New Sharon before beginning his career with the city of New Sharon in 1969. Junior was a certified water specialist for the city of New Sharon for 39 years, retiring in 2008. Junior enjoyed attending the Iowa Speedway with his family, where he is a season ticket holder. He also enjoyed attending auctions, raising his cattle, hunting, fishing, playing UNO on Thanksgiving every year with his family and having coffee in Oskaloosa with his sister, Mary, and his friends at the old Casey’s. Junior is a member of the Farm Bureau, AAA and the Key COOP.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 47 years, Sharon, of New Sharon; two sons, Alan Fisher, of New Sharon, and Adam Fisher, of New Sharon; his sister, Mary (Mike) Stout, of Oskaloosa; a half brother, Arthur Hughes, of Arkansas; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Alliemae Fisher; a daughter in infancy, Sherrie Fisher; one half brother, Edgar Hughes; two half sisters, Martha Hughes Shook and Darlene Hughes Holcomb; a niece, Susan Burris and a nephew, George Shook.
