OSKALOOSA — Margaret Helen Davis Collison died Feb. 19, 2014.
Margaret was born March 14, 1921, in Farmington, Mo., to Floyd W. Davis and Willie Hooe Davis (Ballard). Margaret received her AA from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. Her BS in nursing was from St. Louis University. There she met and married Robert Collison, M.D. After World War II, they settled in Oskaloosa. There they raised 11 children and served their community with a busy general medical and surgical practice. Margaret was a champion of progressive principles in education (including six years on the State Board of Regents), civics (League of Women Voters, Democratic Party), women and family issues and human rights. Margaret was devoted to her faith and St. Mary’s Parish. Throughout her life, in all settings, Margaret was admired for her strength, humor, creativity, elegance, courage and determination.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents, her brother Richard and sister, Mary Shaw.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by: Mike (Shirley), Strafford, Mo.; Mary (Molly) Shonsey (Edward), Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Kathryn (Katie), San Diego, Calif.; Margaret Walker (Jeff), Magnolia, Texas; Dr. William Wade (Lori), Prescott, Ariz.; Dr. Richard (Alessandra Scamardo), Prescott, Ariz.; John (Laurie), Trempealeau, Wis.; Jane (Bob McCracken) Urbandale; Dan (Joan), Hanover, N.H.; Jim (Annaluna Karkar), River Hills, Wis.; Charles Alden, Carlsbad, Calif.; and 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at St. Boniface Church, 1200 Warrior Lane, Waukee, where Margaret was a member. Family will be present at 9 a.m. After private interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa the family will meet friends at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, 301 High Ave E., in Oskaloosa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to St. Boniface Church, The El Salvador Project / in memory of Margaret Collison.
