WAYNE, Neb. — Joyce A. Putnam passed away Feb. 15, 2014, at Providence Medical Hospital in Wayne, Neb., (formerly from Oskaloosa) of a very long illness, with her daughter and granddaughters by her side.
She was born Joyce A. Mitrisin on June 2, 1929, in Oskaloosa, to George A. and Emma (Cox) Mitrisin. Jo worked as a waitress and cook (a great cook as many of you will attest to in Osky) in Iowa, Colorado and Utah. She started working when she was 12, serving ice cream standing on a milk crate for Perry Nichols (Nichols Cafe). She had a great love for cooking, bowling, embroidering, fishing and loved to roam the hills in Moab, Utah, searching for arrowheads. She was married on March 31,1948, to Vincent R. Putnam. Jo's family includes her daughters, Vicki Sutak, of Wayne, Neb., Amy and Cliff Carter, of Moab, Utah, Sandy and Larry Kenny, of Moab, Utah;grandchildren, Carrie Ann Sutak and Toni Hytrek, of Wayne, Neb., Jody and Bia Fleming, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Sarah Kaveny, of Loveland, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Madison and Mac Kaveny, of Loveland, Colo.; brothers and sisters; James Mitrisin, Marguerite Mitrisin, Mary Jane Davis, Susanne (Jim) Van Der Martin, all of Oskaloosa; Steve (Madge) Mitrisin, of Knoxville; Dan Mitrisin, of Box Elder, S.D.; Virgil (Sue) Mitrisin of Arizona; Sandra Hammond of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews — whom she adored.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents George and Emma Mitrisin, her husband Vincent Putnam; son-in-law, Monte Sutak; her grandson, Jamie Joe Kaveny; brothers, William Mitrisin, John Mitrisin, George Mitrisin and sister Cathrine Hudson.
