Barbecue benefits area youth

The Oskaloosa Herald

OSKALOOSA — Those sinking their teeth into the 8-ounce pork chop, baked potato, roll and baked beans did so for a good cause.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the Oskaloosa Rotary Club’s Great Annual Barbecue served up these tasty items courtesy of the Hy-Vee Catering Service.

Proceeds from the barbecue benefitted the Oskaloosa Rotary’s Club’s annual scholarship program, said Bob Elgin, Oskaloosa Rotary Club secretary.

Any student in Mahaska County can apply for the scholarship program, noted Elgin. He said young people earning the scholarship can go to any college of their choice.

The scholarships are important to “develop the youth in the community,” Elgin said.
