Locals deal with heat

OSKALOOSA — The heat area residents have been dealing with this week won’t end today.

On Tuesday, Oskaloosa Herald Facebook readers were asked how they would beat the heat this week.

A few respondents noted that they planned on staying inside in the air conditioning, while others said they’d do some swimming.

So, what is there to do when staying indoors in the air conditioning?

Luis Islas came up with a creative solution. He proposed obtaining a spray bottle, bucket and fan. Then he thought to sit under a tree, dip his feet in the bucket and spray his face and neck. All this would be done while having a pity fit, he wrote.

Many local residents work outdoors, which can prove to be a hazard to one’s health with the heat index heading over the century mark. Shawn Lewis said he’d get out and get the main farm work done early.

Heat-related illness is a serious matter and is certainly something to take into consideration this week.

According to the National Weather Service, daytime high temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to upper-90s through this Labor Day Weekend.
