Oskaloosa firefighters battle early morning blaze

OSKALOOSA —

Oskaloosa firefighters battled a house fire at 922 S. First St. early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters received a call at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday about the blaze. Seventeen firefighters were on scene until 6:15 a.m.

Two people were at home at the time of the fire. Firefighters say the neighbors warned the occupants about the fire. The home was owned by Cecil Comstock, firefighters say.

The Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska Ambulance and MidAmerican Energy assisted the firefighters at the scene.

No one was injured, firefighters say.

The home was a total loss. An official cause of fire has not been determined. However, firefighters believe the fire to be accidental in nature.
