Supervisors terminate agreement with SIRG effective March 1, 2014

OSKALOOSA — The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday to terminate the agreement for hazardous materials clean-up services from the Southern Iowa Response Group effective March 1, 2014.

The Mahaska County Emergency Management Association has signed an agreement with the Oskaloosa, Cedar Township and New Sharon fire departments for hazardous materials clean-up services.

“It’s been signed by all parties,” said Mahaska County Emergency Management Association Director Jamey Robinson. It’s been filed with the Secretary of State’s office and the Mahaska County Recorder’s office, he added.

Robinson said SIRG needs a 90-day formal written notice.

Supervisor Mike Vander Molen said the supervisors’ minutes should meet the written notice requirement. Vander Molen set the date for the SIRG agreement termination at March 1, 2014, to meet the 90-day notice requirement.

“We’ll be up and ready to go in 90 days easily,” Robinson said.

In other action, the supervisors agreed to indicate to Marion and Powesheik county officials that the supervisors are comfortable with a revised 28E agreement with them in regards to the Tri-County Behavioral Health Region.

Powesheik County officials were thinking about looking at other options for mental health services. The supervisors discussed if Mahaska County would want to partner with another mental health service region, such as Wapello County’s.

The supervisors also had a bid opening for a bridge project on 185th Street over the North Skunk River north of Rose Hill. Mahaska County officials received seven bids and went with the low bid — $89,450 from TK Concrete.
