OSKALOOSA — The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors discussed the U.S. 63 NEPA study at its meeting Tuesday morning.

The Iowa Department of Transportation approved in August the addition of Highway 63 to the state’s Commercial Industrial Network. Beth Danowsky of the Highway 63 Coalition thanked the supervisors for their support for the project.

Work on the NEPA study for improvements to Highway 63 continue and Danowsky updated the supervisors about its progress.

The DOT has approved concept of the NEPA study, and an archaeological and historical study of the stretch of roadway from Oskaloosa to Malcom is ready to get under way, she said.

Danowsky said the Highway 63 Coalition is still fund-raising for the study. The cost, with a contingency fund, is about $540,000 and so far $325,000 has been raised, she said. Danowsky said the coalition is talking to area businesses and communities about funding contributions, she added.
