It’s been 34 years since Georgiana, a musical by Oskaloosa’s own Iola Cadwallader, was last produced in Oskaloosa in 1980.
This year, Randy Wright is changing that.
“'Georgiana' will be a community effort, and it has a whole lot of implications for Oskaloosa,” Wright said. “This is a collaboration between the George Daily Auditorium, William Penn University, the Oskaloosa School District, and the Oskaloosa Community Theatre.”
Wright is looking to cast 40-60 people for the different roles.
“We want to encourage families to audition together,” he said. “We need people of all ages, and because of the structure of the play, there isn’t a big time commitment.”
Auditions are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 27 – 29 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the George Daily Auditorium. No previous theatre experience or preparation is necessary.
Georgiana follows the life of Iola Cadwallader’s parents and siblings as they “Go West!” to Kansas. As a family, they face hardships through the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, and good times with marriage and strong familial bonds. At its heart, Georgiana is ultimately a celebration of “Family Fun.”
Production dates are July 17, 18 and 19. Contact Director Randy Wright at (641) 672-0940 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
