Young artists had their work on display at the Iowa Building Thursday evening as a prelude to the Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade.
About 65 artists from Oskaloosa Elementary School had their works on display in the show that Fine Arts and Cultural Events of Mahaska County sponsored.
“It's something we do each year for the kids,” said Sue Van Wyk of FACE. “We'd like to expand it to all of the Mahaska County schools.”
Van Wyk said the art show was not being judged for awards. The art show held during Art on the Square is a juried show, she said.
Van Wyk said the two Elementary School art teachers — Breanna Bartlett and Orla Stodgill — support FACE.
“Oskaloosa is really lucky to have such talented art teachers,” Van Wyk said.
It shows in the students' art, she added.
Some local families stopped at the show to see their children's artwork.
Karrie McCallum, of Oskaloosa, and her sons Jackson and Logan were examining the artwork on display.
“Logan has a picture in it and we came to check it out,” McCallum said. Logan is a second-grader, she added.
“Jackson had one in last year,” McCallum said. “We always go to see what the kids do.”
Brandon and Jessi Blommers, of Oskaloosa, along with their children Presley, Sadie and Gibson were also looking at the art.
“Our kindergartener, Sadie, has some artwork in it,” Brandon said. “We know about half of the people here.”
