School board approves sale of Construction Trades home

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa School Board approved the sale of the Construction Trades class home during its meeting Tuesday night.

School officials received a $170,000 bid from Brad and Catherine Griffin for the home located at 415 S. M St. The School Board unanimously accepted the bid.

“They’re making good progress,” Superintendent Russ Reiter said of work at the home. The students are finishing up the siding on the home’s exterior and completing work on the interior, he said.

There will be an open house set for May 16.

In other action, the School Board approved an out-of-state trip for Garrett Van Maanen to go to the National Student Council convention from June 22-24 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Van Maanen is the president-elect of the Iowa state student council, High School Principal Stacy Bandy said.

The School Board also appointed a former colleague to fill in the final four months of Laurie Fiscella’s term. She resigned from the School Board, effective June 1.

The School Board unanimously approved the appointment of Dave Meinert to serve in her place. Fiscella’s District 6 seat will be up for election in September, Reiter said.

The School Board also unanimously passed a budget amendment that deals with increased food prices. The amendment will be dealt with either by additional revenue or a fund balance. There will be no additional taxes or fees implemented to cover it, Board Secretary Chad Vink said.
