OSKALOOSA — Dr. Bob Stouffer is the new principal for the Oskaloosa Christian School.
Oskaloosa Christian School Board President Joel Groenenboom introduced Stouffer at a press conference at the school Monday morning. Principal Jason Alons has moved on to a similar position at Orange City Christian School.
Stouffer has been the superintendent of the Des Moines Christian School for the past 14 years. His previous 20 years as a professional educator has been spent in public schools in Mason City, Pleasant Valley and Urbandale.
“This is an exciting time for us,” Groenenboom said. Stouffer will be the school administrator for the upcoming school year, he added.
“They’re going to be heavily invested in me and I want to be heavily invested in them,” Stouffer said.
Stouffer said he will be very active around the school and in the community.
“I’m a big networker,” Stouffer said. “I love people.”
“I’ll be in the halls and the classrooms. I’ll be in the community,” he said.
Stouffer said he had resigned from Des Moines Christian School in March and asked God if retirement was for him. Stouffer came to Oskaloosa Christian School because Groenenboom had consulted with him about candidates for the Oskaloosa job. Stouffer said he himself was available.
“I sensed strong support from the (school) board,” he added.
That, and they offered him six puff pillow pastries, he quipped.
Stouffer, 56, earned his bachelor’s degree in English in 1980 from Winona State University in Minnesota. He earned a master’s in educational administration in 1987 from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State), and earned a doctorate in educational administration with honors from the University of Iowa in 1992, according to a press release from Oskaloosa Christian School.
At Des Moines Christian School, Stouffer managed a school with a more than $6 million budget and 850 kindergarten through 12th-grade students and about 100 pre-school students. The school has a staff of 190 full- and part-time staff members, according to the press release.
The Oskaloosa Christian School has 155 students, Groenenboom said.
Stouffer has been married to his wife, Cheryl for 32 years in August. They have two grown children and two grandchildren.
