OSKALOOSA — Saturday was International Female Ride Day, so a group of southeast Iowa female motorcycle riders headed out to the highway on their bikes.
The V-Twin Vixens female motorcycle club gathered for a group ride across southeast Iowa. Their high-performance motorcycles rumbled into Oskaloosa round 3 p.m. Saturday. They stopped at the Cellar Peanut Pub during their stay in Oskaloosa.
The group of 12 cyclists started at Drakesville at 11 a.m. and then traveled to Eldon, Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and they finished their ride in New Sharon — a 160-mile round trip.
The V-Twin Vixens formed recently.
“This was an idea born about three months ago,” Vixens spokeswoman Lori Smith said. “I was just curious to see if there’s any female riding group around.”
Smith added that she was a founding member of the club.
The Vixens is a social club that does philanthropic events, Smith said. Club members have donated to Heartland Humane Society and the Ecumenical Cupboard in Oskaloosa, she added.
The club also focuses on motorcycle safety education and driver’s education concerning motorcycles.
