OSKALOOSA —

Professional dancer Dre Young stopped in Oskaloosa this weekend to teach young dancers his art.

Young, 25, dances professionally in Los Angeles. He has danced professionally for 10 years and he likes to travel to small towns to teach young dancers. He gave clinics on Saturday and Sunday at the Releve dance studio in Oskaloosa.

Young grew up in Seattle, Wash., and moved to Los Angeles four years ago. He performs contemporary dance, and since moving to L.A., he also has danced hip hop.

"It all started with a friend," Young said of his interest in dance. They attended a dance class together and Young was hooked.

Young also said he was inspired to dance after seeing Brittney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time" 13 years ago.

What does Young love about dancing?

"I love the audience," he said. Performing before an audience is such an adreneline rush, he added.

Young has performed on some television shows for the Disney Channel. He also has appeared on "America's Got Talent" and "So You Think You Can Dance?" Young also has performed on music videoes with artists such as Jennifer Lopez.

Young said that he has enjoyed working with the celebrities that he has performed with. He said there were no ego clashes during his time with them.

Young also said he has performed overseas. Two years ago, he performed across Asia.

He said China was a more reserved atmosphere compared to Tiawan.

However, Young said he likes teaching workshops in small towns. He has been in the Oskaloosa-Pella-Centerville area five or six times.

"I definately love it out here," he said.

Dancers train alot and follow healthy diets. Young said he likes to dance free style as a way to train physically. Young said he will hire a trainer to work with him for a month or so, but otherwise he likes to work on his own.

Dancing as a career won't last forever, so Young said he would like to go to college in the next few years. Young said he wants to be a child psychologist.

"I like to sit down with kids," he said.
