OSKALOOSA — A little rain didn’t stop dogs and their owners from participating in the second-annual Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter K-9 5K & Dog Walk on Saturday.

Those registered for the event could chose a 5K or 1 mile route. Awards were slated for the top finishers, as well.

The event got started at the Lacey Recreation Complex, which is a change from last year’s inaugural K-9 5K & Dog Walk.

That first year, the event was held at Edmundson Park.

Lindsey Sime, executive director of the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter, said more than 60 people pre-registered for the fund-raising event.

“It’s way up from last year,” she said.

Saturday’s event was more than just a fund-raiser.

It also served as a form of essential community outreach on behalf of Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter, noted Sime.

“We want to educate the community about responsible pet ownership,” Sime said.
