Annual report on library given

Oskaloosa Public Library Diractor Willam Ottens provided the Oskaloosa City Council with an annual report at Monday's regular city council meeting.

Ottens spoke about how the community values the library, noting that it is one that loves to read.

There have been many recent developments at the library. Ottens talked of things like the Reading Garden and some of the library's new staff members, as well.

Ottens also spoke about how the library's finances work during his report, as well as the fact that the library is a place where people can check out more than just books. They have collections of CDs and DVDs, as well, among other items.

Youth programming is a big part of the Oskaloosa Public Library. Ottens noted that more than 9,000 attended these programs this fiscal year.

At Monday's regular meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council, Oskaloosa City Manager Michael Schrock Jr. provided the council with an update on the fire station project.

Schrock said city staff had a meeting with an architect Monday with four tentative sites in mind, should the station be moved off site.

The idea is that Schrock will come back to the city council within the next couple of weeks with some conceptual drawings. Schrock noted that the architect will review that with city staff.

Input from the public will also be invited, noted Schrock.

Further discussion among the Oskaloosa City Council will also be needed before making a decision on the fire station, said Schrock.

In other business, the council:

• Approved the first reading of an ordinance amending Title 17 — “Zoning,” Chapter 17.28 — “Off-street Parking” of the city of Oskaloosa zoning ordinance providing amendments for off-street parking design standards and parking for personal recreational vehicles after holding a public hearing on the matter.

• Approved a resolution scheduling a public hearing on vacation and sale of 120 feet by 16 ½ feet of the east-west public alley adjacent to 413 N. A St.
