Genskow leads Osky past Grinnell on pitch

OSKALOOSA — Adam Genskow tallied a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Oskaloosa to a 3-1 win over Grinnell Tuesday night at Lacey Complex.

Playing the Little Hawkeye Conference match in 38-degree weather and a very cold northerly wind, the Indians took a 1-0 lead on Genskow’s goal going with the wind after a corner kick at the 18:53 mark of the first half.

Oskaloosa went into the strong wind in the second half and the Indians didn’t let the wind bother them at all.

Genskow made it 2-0 on his sixth goal of the season barely 4 minutes into the second half.

Grinnell’s Carlos Sanchez cut the deficit in half, getting the ball past Oskaloosa goalkeeper Logan Ridenour in the 59th minute only to see the Indians tack on an insurance goal in the final minutes of the contest.

Spencer DeJong recorded his first varsity goal with just 1:38 remaining io close out the scoring.

“I thought we played solid defense throughout the game,” Oskaloosa coach Joe Bell said. “ Ben Rurup and the rest of our defenders came through big for us back there. We took advantage of our offensive opportunities as well.”
