OSKALOOSA — The Reading Garden at the Oskaloosa Public Library is taking shape.

Library Director William Ottens said he expects a grand opening for the Reading Garden sometime in mid- to late-May. He said the brick and stone work, as well as most of the planting in the area had been done before this past winter’s snow.

The Friends of the Library are still taking names for engraved bricks in the Reading Garden, according to Ottens.

As far as what still needs to be done in the Reading Garden, Ottens said a few benches need to be placed and that lighting and entry arbor for the area remain possible.

So, how will library patrons benefit from the Reading Garden?

“It’s a great opportunity for people to enjoy the scenery,” said Ottens, noting that it will be an ideal spot for the library’s programming for children, as well as those who enjoy outdoor reading.
