The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the county’s Secondary Road Department’s fiscal year 2014 budget and construction plan Monday.
The Secondary Road Department submits its budget and construction program to the state by April 15 each year. The budget covers the year starting on July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2014.
The 2014 budget calls for $6.9 million in receipts and $5.4 million in expenditures. With the county auditor’s balance of the road department’s end-of-year balance of $1.4 million, the expenditures and receipts balance out at $6.9 million.
Mahaska County Engineer Jerry Nusbaum said that this upcoming year, the road department will have two bridge projects and two other structures.
Board Chairman Greg Gordy asked if the Indian Way paving project in preparation of RAGBRAI stops at the curve.
Nusbaum said it will end just past the curve.
In other action, the supervisors approved adding Mahaska Health Partnership doctors Amy Montgomery and Amanda Merino as deputy medical examiners. They will assist County Medical Examiner Dr. Matt Whittis.
The supervisors also approved the addition of MHP staff members Joshua Crouse, Jeremy Carmer and Andrea Hagist as medical investigators for the county medical examiner.
The supervisors also appointed Supervisor Mark Doland to the Mental Health Regionalization advisory committee. Committee members will help formulate a 28E agreement for regionalized mental health services that area boards of supervisors will approve, Gordy said.
