Fifth-annual Live United 5K & YMCA Healthy Kids Day to be held April 27

Press release

OSKALOOSA — The United Way of Mahaska County is holding its fifth-annual Live United 5K & YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27, at the Penn Activity Center on the William Penn University campus.

This year’s event is all about promoting health in Mahaska County.  United Way of Mahaska County is partnering with the YMCA to give adults and children a fun and exciting day, all while promoting healthy living initiatives.  Family day events will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and include numerous free kid-friendly activities such as crafts, balloon animals, games, inflatables, community booths, raffle prizes and more.

To pre-register for the 5K race, go to active.com and search LIVE UNITED or click http://www.active.com/running/oskaloosa-ia/live-united-5k-and-ymca-healthy-kids-day-2013. Pre-registration for the race is $25 and ends April 25.  Race day registration for the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m.  Race day registration is $30.

There will again be free “fun run” races for children in separate age categories.  People can sign up for these races online or on the day of the event; however, participants in the fun run races will not receive a T-shirt. But there will be lots of other giveaways for kids.

The United Way is asking local businesses to participate in the fifth-annual event by becoming a sponsor, donating prizes, volunteering or helping out in any way possible.  Sponsorships (due by March 25) are only $200 and include:

• Company name listed on the back of the commemorative t-shirt given to all volunteers

• Prominent recognition as a United Way Corporate Partner

• Promoted on all marketing materials as a Corporate Partner for the event

• Recognition on United Way of Mahaska County’s Web site

This is a great opportunity for a business to get there name out to a large and diverse audience of consumers.  United Way of Mahaska County estimates that approximately 300 people attended this event last year and they expect even more this year.

The United Way of Mahaska County is still looking for volunteers to help support this fun event.  People can register to volunteer by contacting Program Coordinator Amy Langdon at (641) 673-6043.  As always, the United Way is truly grateful for the support from our local business leaders, their employees and families.
