Two injured in Highway 163 accident Tuesday

OSKALOOSA — Two Marion County men were injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 163 and North Shore Drive.



The accident occurred at 4:54 p.m. when a westbound 1990 Toyota Camry driven by Steven James Thompson, 17, of Knoxville, collided with the rear of a slow-moving west-bound John Deere tractor pulling a field planter driven by Randal DeJong, 55, of Leighton, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Thompson and his passenger, Derek Levi Springer, 18, of Bussey, were injured. Thompson was taken by air care to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Springer was taken by air care to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, according to the accident report.

The accident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office, the Oskaloosa Police Department and the Oskaloosa Fire Department.
