Sage Walker is a national champion

OSKALOOSA —

Oskaloosa Middle School wrestler Sage Walker is a national wrestling champion.

Walker competed in the AAU USA Wrestling Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.

There were 23 wrestlers, ages 12 to 14, competing in the tournament.

I had to wrestle seven,” Walker said. “I was the only Iowa kid.”

Walker's championship belt is adorned with both the pre-season and post-season titles that he had won at the tournament.

Walker said he has been wrestling since first grade and he has been to state-level tournaments before.

“I've won state four times, free-style four times and Grecco one time,” he said.

Walker said he was up against some good competition at the tournament.

“It was really cool” to win, he said.
