Four students injured in semi-bus collision

OSKALOOSA —

Four Oskaloosa students were injured in a semi-bus collision on Highway 92 west of Oskaloosa Tuesday morning.

A school bus driven by John Henry Hoekstra, 48, of Oskaloosa, was stopped eastbound on Highway 92 at 1803 Highway 92 with the lights and stop sign activated. A semi driven by Kevin Dale Green, 44, of Tracy, struck the bus. The driver's vision was obstructed by sunlight, and Green tried to brake and steer to the right. However, the semi made contact with the rear of the school bus and the semi came to a stop in the south ditch, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Four students reported injuries. Kenneth Hogan Rockhold, 12, of Leighton; Avery Madison Rockhold, 9, of Leighton; Dalton Taylor Harvey, 15, of Leighton; and Isabel Emarie Harvey, 12, of Leighton were injured and transported by school bus to the school nurse, according to the accident report.

The accident is still under investigation. The Mahaska County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the accident scene, according to the accident report.
