William Penn University officials opened the doors to the new Market Street Hall dormitory for the public to view Friday morning.
William Penn and the Oskaloosa Area Chamber Diplomats held a “Business During Hours” event from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Friday to give tours of the new facility.
The Market Street Hall dormitory is a 250-bed, 777,424-square-foot, three-story residence hall located at 1801 N. Market St. University officials opened its doors in January to house students.
“It went very well,” William Penn Executive Assistant to the President Diane Burns said. “Students were pleased to be here.”
“The transition has gone quite well,” Dr. Noel Stahle added.
University representatives were on hand to conduct tours of a four-bedroom and a two-bedroom suite on the ground level. They also took people to see a student study lounge, a laundry room and a student TV lounge on the third floor.
The four-bedroom suites have four individual bedrooms with two bathrooms. The two-bedroom suites have two bathrooms, said Residence Life Director Jim Rorabaugh. The hall has a staff of six resident assistants and a hall director, he added.
William Peen officials were pleased with the turnout for the “Business During Hours.”
“We’ve had a good flow of people,” said Vice President for Advancement Sherri Taylor. “It’s a good mix of business people and community residents.”
After the tour of the residence hall, people were treated to a light lunch and they could eat in one of the study lounges.
