Oskaloosa woman charged with attempted murder

OSKALOOSA — An Oskaloosa woman faces attempted murder and domestic assault charges stemming from a Sunday evening incident.

Amber Nicole Thompson, 29, of 1011 Green St., was charged with attempted murder and domestic assault causing injury, according to an Oskaloosa Police Department press release.

At 5:47 p.m. Sunday, March 28, the Oskaloosa Police Department responded to 1011 Green St. in Oskaloosa in reference to a man being stabbed with a knife.

Upon officers’ arrival, Allen Newell, 34, of Oskaloosa, was lying in the front yard of 1011 Green St. with a stab wound to his chest. Upon investigating further into this matter, it was discovered that the couple were engaged in a verbal and physical altercation at the time of the injury. Thompson was taken into custody. Newell was taken to the Mahaska County Hospital for treatment for his injuries. He is currently in stable condition, according to the press release.

Oskaloosa police officers executed a search warrant at 1011 Green St. later that evening to gather evidence.

Attempted murder is a class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Domestic assault causing injury is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.

Thompson is currently being held in the Mahaska County Jail on $25,000 bond. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty, according to the press release.
