Motorist killed in Thursday accident

The Oskaloosa Herald

One person was killed and two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 4:07 p.m. Thursday one mile east of New Sharon on Highway 63.

A 1996 Chevrolet truck driven by Kaden Shaw, 14, of Searsboro, was traveling east and a 1999 Ford Escort driven by Kassandra Ford, 27, of Oskaloosa, was traveling west on the highway. According to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol, Shaw's truck turned into the path of Ford's car while entering a residential drive. Due to the hill crest in the accident area, limited sight distance may have contributed to the cause of the accident, the accident report stated.

The name of the deceased motorist was being withheld pending notification of family. Shaw and Ford were injured. Shaw was transported by Mahaska Ambulance to Mahaska Health Partnership. Ford was transported to Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, via Mercy Air, according to the accident report.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Mahaska County Ambulance, the New Sharon Police Department, Mahaska County ME and the Oskaloosa Police Department assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene.
