---- — OSKALOOSA — AgriPower FFA alumni are organizing a consignment auction for early March to raise funds for scholarships and activities for the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont FFA chapter.

The FFA alumni organization formed in August to help raise funds for the chapter.

The consignment auction is set for Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School.

“This is our big thing we’re doing,” auction organizer Sharis Bahr-Claver said. “Everything we raise goes back to the FFA.”

The consignment auction will feature machinery, tools, equipment and other farm- or agriculture-related items.

“If you can move it, we’ll sell it,” said auction organizer Justin Doyle said.

The deadline for advertising auction items is Feb. 24.

Local auctioneers helping with the benefit include J.D. Sinnif, Randy Sieren, Mike Stewart, and Al Marten Real Estate and Auction.

All commissions will go to the Eddyville FFA alumni for future scholarships and FFA events, according to an event flier.

Auction organizer Jake Davis said alumni would welcome anyone who would like to volunteer for the event.

“There’s a lot of work involved with it,” he said. Anyone interested in helping can call Doyle at (641) 777-8343, he added.

There are currently 10 to 15 people involved with the alumni organization.

“The more the merrier,” Davis said. If anyone has ideas on how to raise funds for the FFA, they are welcomed to share them, he added.

If people want to learn more about the AgriPower FFA chapter and its alumni, they can check the chapter’s Facebook page: AgriPower FFA, Bahr-Claver said.

Besides the consignment auction, the alumni group has sold Rocket Burgers during football games and they man the concession stand during the basketball and wrestling seasons, Bahr-Claver added.

“We always have the FFA members help out,” she said.

Davis said events like the consignment auction helps promote the FFA chapter and the future of agriculture in the area. If agriculture flourishes in the area, there will be agriculture-related jobs in the area for graduates.

“Ag is this area,” he said.
