OSKALOOSA — The Storybook Players are conducting their annual Holiday Show Saturday at George Daily Auditorium, but instead of raising money for the organization, the members are doing it for one of their own.
“We always do an annual holiday show, but this year we’re collecting funds for Micha Leaverton,” said Storybook Players faculty advisor Laura Ross. “He graduated two years ago. He was Homecoming King his senior year and was a Storybook Player.”
Leaverton was involved in a motorcycle accident in mid- to late-July.
“He’s paralyzed from the ribs down,” she said. Leaverton had six to eight weeks of rehabilitation in a hospital in Denver, Colo., she added.
The show this weekend will be a special one.
“It’s our 30th year of Storybook,” Ross said.
The seniors wrote two shows: “AT: The Christmas Special” and Alex and the Eagles,” Ross said. There are 80 students who are Storybook Players and about 50 of them will perform Saturday, she added.
Besides the shows and special Christmas music, Santa will make an appearance after each show. Santa will listen to what children want for Christmas and parents will have a photo opportunity to get some pictures of their children with Santa, Ross said.
The shows begin at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. A free-will donation will be taken.
