School board approves FY 2013-14 budget for publishing

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa School Board approved the fiscal year 20013-2014 budget for publishing at its meeting Monday evening.

School officials will publish a budget that facts in 0 percent allowable growth from the state and a tax levy of $15.53 per $1,000 assessed valuation. This past year’s tax levy was $15,91, Board Secretary Chad Vink said.

The School Board will vote on the approval of the budget at its April 9 meeting. Then, the budget will be sent to state education officials.

In other action, the School Board approved a 28E agreement between the school district and local preschool organizations as the first step in establishing a combined preschool program for the community.

The agreement is between the Oskaloosa school district and organizations such as Head Start, the YMCA and Kids Corner, Vink said. The school district is responsible for funding and setting standards for the community preschool, he added.
