Keeping a sense of history in New Sharon

NEW SHARON — Amid all the food and fun at the 2013 New Sharon Spring Festival, there was a poignant sense of history.

After the parade, there was a time reserved for queen contest candidates to each discuss what military veterans mean to them. New Sharon Citizen of the Year Don Boyd was one of those veterans.

Boyd, a lifelong New Sharon resident, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He said he appreciated the queen candidates expressing how they felt about military veterans.

“I think they did a good job,” said Boyd, noting that he’s an active member of the American Legion and that they try to keep young people knowledgable of the past. “We think history is important.”
