OSKALOOSA — Oskaloosa High School sent a Junior Varsity team to the Regional National History Bowl that was held in Sigourney on Saturday and the team came home champions.
It was the first time that Oskaloosa had competed in this event. High school government teacher Jeff Lorentzen and his student teacher Shelby Chisholm recruited players and prepared for the event. Teams could have a maximum of 6 players and Oskaloosa took 5.
Approximately, 10 teams showed up for the regional competition. Winners from every state will compete in Washington, D.C., the weekend of April 25-27. Since, Oskaloosa won the JV regional competition they do qualify for the National Competition.
At this point, Lorentzen is unsure whether they will actually go to Nationals due to financial reasons. The team would most likely need sponsors in order to cover travel expenses.
