OSKALOOSA — They’re back again! The Iowa Barnstormers return to Oskaloosa and William Penn University to prepare for the 2014 season in the Arena Football League.
For the past couple years, they have called Oskaloosa home as they build their team in training camp. Coach Mike Hohensee made it very clear that Oskaloosa was a blessing for the program considering they do not have their own facilities in Des Moines.
The facilities at William Penn are not the only reason they keep coming back though; not only having the Penn Activity Center to work on their football skills, but to connect with the community and really start to get involved.
“It is a great place to get away from the media and really focus on building as a team and interacting with the community,” Hohensee said. “Oskaloosa is a great place to grow on and off of the field.”
That is the mentality that Hohensee wants the Barnstormers to focus on throughout this training camp — professionalism. Being able to come to practice ready to get better and push each other then go out to the community and represent the team in a positive and professional manner.
The Barnstormers have made adjustments, not only to the players, but to the coaching staff adding two new coaches that the Barnstormers will benefit from.
“The new coaches we have brought in really bring a lot of passion and experience to the team which is something we need,” Hohensee said.
Just by watching from the sidelines of their first training camp practice, there is a real fire that they bring to the table. The Barnstormers will be participating in practices throughout the week as well as making some appearances around Oskaloosa.
