OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa Elementary School received $500 from the Iowa Sports Foundation Tuesday afternoon to buy new physical education equipment.

Kim Abels of the Iowa Sports Foundation presented a check during an assembly at the elementary school gym. The elementary school participated in the Live Healthy Iowa Kids 10 Week Challenge. Megan VandeVoort’s first grade class team was a winner.

“We give out four $500 awards and one $1,000 award,” Abels said. “It is to be used for physical education equipment or playground equipment.”

During the 10 Week Challenge, students recorded their physical activity minutes and their health food servings.

There were 36,000 students statewide who participated in the challenge, Abels said. The Oskaloosa Elementary School had 16 teams competing.

VandeVoort’s class gathered around Abels as she presented an oversized check to VandeVoort.
