Published August 20, 2008 10:55 am - Kaleb Groenenboom Oskaloosa youth wins scholarship at State Fair The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — A 2008 Pella Christian High School graduate was among the four recent graduates awarded the Iowa Select Farms Scholarship at the Iowa State Fair.
Kaleb Groenenboom, of Oskaloosa, was awarded a $5,000 Iowa Select Farms Scholarship by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement during the Sale of Champions on Saturday, Aug. 16. The scholarship was for young people interested in being involved in agriculture. Groenenboom will attend Kirkwood Community College this fall and later transfer to Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture. After graduating from ISU, Groenenboom plans to eventually run his own farm. This year is the IFAA’s 20th anniversary. IFAA is a non-profit organization comprised of agricultural enthusiasts dedicated to encouraging 4-H and FFA livestock, poultry and agriculture project members to pursue ag-related careers. More than $3,500,000 has been raised for 834 “Winner’s Circle” Scholarships, 489 Performance and Carcass Awards and 274 Sale of Champions livestock exhibitors.
