Letter to the editor:
This is what I know about Tom Rielly, candidate for Mahaska County Supervisor in the upcoming special election on January 29.
He is welcoming. More than eight years ago, when my family and I moved into our house down the street from Tom and Mary, they were the first people to welcome us to the neighborhood. Before the big move over the next weekend, my wife and I stopped by the house after our closing to drop off some things. Just a couple of minutes after pulling in, Tom and Mary were in our driveway letting us know how happy they were to have us and to tell us that if we ever needed anything, to just let them know.
He is a committed to family values. Prior to his passing, Tom’s father was frequently at Tom and Mary’s for dinner and family time. I know Tom respected his parents and they were proud of him. Tom has a wonderful wife in Mary and two beautiful daughters. All are so nice and respectful to everyone they meet. He supports his daughters in all their endeavors while they pursue work and education. I’ve seen them working together in the yard over the years and I can tell what kind of relationship he has with his family.
He is a successful business man. Tom has his own business of many years providing financial services for his customers. This is the type of knowledge it takes to serve as a county supervisor. The majority of decisions made by county supervisors relate to business. Budgeting, insurance decision-making, staffing and wisely managing tax dollars are all important aspects of the job.
He has a passion for public service. Tom has proven his love of public service in so many ways. After serving as mayor of Oskaloosa, he represented us in the Iowa Senate. He has always had a bipartisan approach to these positions. For Tom, it’s not about party politics, but about fairly representing all of the people. When discussing issues with Tom, you feel like he listens. You feel he values your insight as much as he does his own. You know your opinion will be given honest weight. He does not have his own agenda.
These are the reasons I am voting for Tom Rielly on January 29. Sincerely,
