Published May 07, 2007 11:27 am - I am writing to express my support for Nik Rule, host of Triple C on William Penn University’s KIGC radio station. Although the students went a little too far in their public criticism of Dr. Veerasamy on the April 11th Triple C radio show, there were no intentionally racist remarks or sounds. I am writing to express my support for Nik Rule, host of Triple C on William Penn University’s KIGC radio station. Although the students went a little too far in their public criticism of Dr. Veerasamy on the April 11th Triple C radio show, there were no intentionally racist remarks or sounds. Aiyanna Looney, in her recent letter to the editor conveniently left out that the “primitive politician award” with the accompanying sound was given to local Councilman Jimmy Carter and Senator John Kerry, as well as Dr. Veerasamy. Ms. Looney’s letter to the editor lacks balance and completeness. Given the deep racial divide in America and the diversity of William Penn University students, it is a challenge to learn how to understand and appreciate the different attitudes and perspectives within the university. Lively discussion of contemporary issues from different perspectives is part of the exciting dynamic of an institution of higher education. In the aftermath of these events, I have had the privilege of getting to know Nik Rule. He is a fine, young student leader, who has apologized both publicly and privately for his criticism of Dr. Veerasamy. He has complied with every request I have made for him to attend meetings to better understand how racial attitudes and views affect us all. I am very impressed with his maturity and willingness to take responsibility for his actions. I am proud to have Nik Rule as a William Penn University student. L.
