OSKALOOSA — A strong majority of those readers who answered this past week’s Question of the Week: Are the torrential rains this year a sign of climate change? answered NO.

Fifty-one — 40 percent — said YES while 72 — 57 percent — answered NO and four — 3 percent — replied I DON’T CARE.

The Question of the Week poll is not scientific and only reflects the opinions of those Internet users who have chosen to participate. The Question of the Week is just another way the Herald’s readers can voice their opinions about issues that affect them.

This week’s Question of the Week deals with the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

President Barack Obama laid out his plans this past week to withdraw 33,000 troops from Afghanistan by next summer. His plan has taken fire from both Democrats and Republicans over the pace of the drawdown.

The president’s plan calls for an initial withdrawal of 5,000 troops this summer and 5,000 more by the end of the year. Then, 20,000 more troops will come home by September 2012, the Associated Press reports.

Democrats argue that the president’s pace is too slow; the Republicans contend the pace is too fast.
