The Oskaloosa Herald
Spring has almost arrived!! By next week at this time, we will be at the beginnings of spring. Friday looks to have highs near 60! As the rest of the weekend arrives, temperatures will plummet into the low 30s. The good news: only a slight chance of rain is in the forecast for the next few days. I would also like to take this time to recognize the William Penn Men’s Basketball Team. This has been a fantastic year for the team. Thank you to the Statesmen for working hard and fighting to the last few moments in each game. I believe that you truly have made everyone in Oskaloosa proud. This week, as we begin to deal with potholes and such (especially after winter) I believe it is necessary to remind residents of this.
Question: Who is responsible for maintaining alleyways?
This topic seems to come up a couple of times each year. For this question, I talked to Akhilesh Pal, our Public Works Director. For downtown alleys, the city is responsible for maintaining those. For residential alleys, a resident can request that the city fix an alley; however, the resident will be responsible for purchasing the material (such as gravel) for fixing the alley. If a resident can’t provide the material, the city will grade the alley.
