Fall is almost here. Temperatures this past week have been a little BELOW normal. When was the last time that happened here? Temperatures this next week look to be in the lower 70s with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. There also appears to be minimal chances of some rain this weekend. I have received a couple of questions this past week relating to two particular questions I answered this summer.
Question: Why has the City of Oskaloosa discontinued city wide clean up?
For this question, I contacted Akhilesh Pal in the Public Works department. Pal said that in 2009, the City Council decided not to continue the City Wide Clean up. Pal said the biggest reason for discontinuing the clean up was the cost it had on the city.

Question: Who is responsible for maintaining alleyways?
This topic seems to come up a couple of times each year. For this question, I talked to Akhilesh Pal, our Public Works Director. For downtown alleys, The city is responsible for maintaining those. For residential alleys, a resident can request that the city fix an alley, however the resident will be responsible for purchasing the material (such as gravel) for fixing the alley. If a resident can’t provide the material, the city will grade the alley.
