Techel retrial date set

OTTUMWA — After numerous delays, a date has been set in the retrial of Seth Techel.

Techel was tried this spring on charges of first degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy. The charges stemmed from the May 2012 death of his wife, Lisa. An Ottumwa jury failed to reach a verdict in the case.

The retrial will take place in Henry County. Judge Daniel Wilson, who presided at the original trial has set the trial for October 28.

The date isn't a surprise. In August, Wilson ordered a hearing to discuss the retrial dates after lead defense attorney Steven Gardner's health issues delayed the case. Had the October date not been possible, the trial could have been delayed until next year.
