Flash floods possible tonight

OTTUMWA — The possibility of more storms Monday evening has weather officials warning of a flash flood risk for much of southern Iowa.

The risk is highest in southwestern Iowa, with only a couple of local counties in the flash flood watch area. People who live in Davis and Appanoose counties should keep an eye open if storms form this evening.

All of Iowa is in the slight risk area issued by the Storm Prediction Center. Unlike Sunday night, tornadoes are not a high probability for eastern Iowa. That doesn’t mean ignoring storms — straight-line winds can do damage similar to weak tornadoes.
