Knoxville — Firefighters with the City of Knoxville and Knoxville Township Fire Departments responded to a dumpster fire around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Ashes from a burning barrel are blamed for starting the fire at 1156 McKimber Lane. Norman Rozendaal of Rozendaal Tiling and Carpeting said his company was hired to clean out excess junk from the residence. Much of it was piled into the dumpster.
Knoxville Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson confirmed that ashes likely started the fire. The owner of the dumpster arrived on scene to take it to the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency for disposal. SCISWA had set aside a location for the burnt debris to avoid any possibility of re-ignition.
The Knoxville Rural Fire Department, City of Knoxville Fire/Rescue, Knoxville Police, Marion County Sheriff's Department and Marion County Environmental Health responded to the call.
