Stabbing trial pushed back

OTTUMWA — The trial of an Ottumwa man accused of stabbing another man to death has been pushed back.

Twenty-year-old Brandon Seim was charged in November 2011, when he was 18, with the stabbing death of Andy Madren, 34.

When officers arrived at the home in the 1100 block of East Division Street, they found Madren suffering from multiple stab wounds. He later died at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

On Tuesday, Seim’s trial was expected to begin, but it was delayed until Sept. 30 at the request of his attorneys.

His trial had also been scheduled to begin one year ago this month but was put on hold in order for competency and psychiatric evaluations to be completed on Seim. In September, the motion for a mental health examination was withdrawn.

Seim remains in Wapello County Jail on $500,000 cash-only bond.
