Ottumwa teen gets plea deal in sex abuse case

OTTUMWA — An Ottumwa teenager has accepted a plea deal of 10 years in prison.

During a hearing in February, Keith Lane Davis-Sauer, 19, of rural Ottumwa, withdrew his plea of not guilty and entered a guilty plea to third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony, from an incident on Nov. 24 in Henry County. He agreed to a plea bargain of 10 years in prison.

At his sentencing on Wednesday, Davis-Sauer was convicted of the crime based upon his plea deal. He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, register as a sex offender, have no contact with the victim and provide a “physical specimen” in order to be entered for DNA profiling.

The state agreed that another third-degree sexual abuse charge, stemming from an incident on Dec. 24 in Henry County, “will be dismissed upon expiration of appeal period in this case.”

Davis-Sauer was also charged in January with harboring a runaway child, an aggravated misdemeanor, after being found in Kansas City, Mo., alongside a 13-year-old runaway from Salem. The state also agreed that this charge will be dismissed in court.

Davis-Sauer was also charged with suborning perjury (persuading someone to lie under oath), a Class D felony, and tampering with witnesses or jurors, an aggravated misdemeanor, in February. Under his plea bargain, these charges will also be dismissed.
