Vriendschap Village artist is featured

The Pella Chronicle

---- — Keith Emmert, a resident at Vriendschap Village retirement community of Pella, Iowa, is featured in the 2014 Expressions Art Calendar, an award-winning calendar celebrating active aging and the arts. His piece entitled, “Tractor” was selected from hundreds of submissions by artists coast to coast.

Born in Killduff, Iowa in 1922, Keith received a lathe, his first piece of woodworking equipment, at 12-years-old. He contracted polio as a young man and engaged in woodworking as a way to relax. He also became an avid photographer. Now, with his diminishing eyesight, Keith displays his pieces in his apartment for others to enjoy and thrives by focusing on something positive every day.

“Expressions” is published annually by Watermark Retirement Communities. Committed to creating extraordinary communities where people thrive, Watermark currently manages 32 communities across the United States, including four in the greater Des Moines area.
