Published August 06, 2008 12:56 pm - Wapello County announces prescription discount card The Oskaloosa Herald OTTUMWA — The Wapello County Board of Supervisors has partnered with MedOne Healthcare Systems, a pharmacy benefit management company based in Dubuque, to sponsor a prescription drug discount card that will help defray the rising cost of prescription medication for area residents.
Wapello County residents should receive their new prescription drug discount cards in the mail beginning the week of Aug. 11. MedOne will mail more than 15,000 prescription drug discount cards to households in Wapello County. The card can provide significant savings for uninsured and under-insured residents of Wapello County. Residents who have prescription drug coverage can use the card to save money on drugs that are not covered by their health plan. The cards may also prove helpful to residents using Medicare Part D who find themselves in the coverage gap referred to us the “doughnut hole.” Any Wapello County resident, regardless of age, can participate in the discount program, and one card may be used for all family members. There is no cost to the county or its residents. Participants are expected to save an average of 10 to 20 percent on brand name prescriptions and 20 to 50 percent on generic drugs. The prescription drug discount curd is accepted at most or all local pharmacies in Wapello County, as well as more than 50,000 pharmacies nationwide. The Wapello County Board of Supervisors has investigated various programs designed to provide prescription discounts to county residents and decided to partner with MedOne. Factors for choosing MedOne included the fact that it is an Iowa-based company promoting the use of local pharmacies, and their card distribution method was superior. Aaron Viertel, MedOne representative said, “We are excited to be working with the Wapello County Board of Supervisors and its various agencies to help reduce prescription drug costs for county residents.” The discount cards will be available at participating pharmacies, the Wapello County Courthouse — Auditor’s Office at 101 W. Fourth St., Ottumwa, and various assistance agencies in the county.
