Published July 22, 2008 12:29 pm - Nibe new vet at Animal Health Center By DUANE NOLLEN The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — Kelli Nibe has always liked working with animals, and now she does it as a full-time vocation as the newest veterinarian at the Animal Health Center in Oskaloosa.
She began work at the Animal Health Center at the end of May. As a vet, Nibe is a jack-of-all-trades for animal care. “I do a little bit of everything — mostly dogs and cats here,” she said. Nibe, of Albia, comes up to Oskaloosa on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and every other Saturday. She and another vet, Matt Garver, come to the Oskaloosa clinic and two other vets, including her husband, man the Animal Health Center in Albia. Nibe earned her Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine from Iowa State University in May. She likes working with animals and did plenty of that growing up in Hardin County. “I grew up on a pig farm. I was in 4-H,” she said. The best part of being a vet is, “I like working with animals and helping people feel better about their pets,” she said. She’s interested in pet dermatology and she likes to use the video otoscope to check pets’ ears. Nibe is in the Oskaloosa center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Nibe said she doesn’t do house calls for small animals, but will do them on a case-by-case basis for large animals such as cows.
