Published July 22, 2008 12:26 pm - United Way Day of Caring set for Aug. 26 The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — United Way of Mahaska County is gearing up for the 2008 Day of Caring.
They want to make a difference in the community by bringing volunteers and those needing help together. The Day of Caring is a day set aside to mobilize volunteers in the community to help the elderly, assist non-profits with various projects and help with beautification projects in the community. This event promotes teamwork and gives people a taste of volunteering, while making a difference in the community. The Day of Caring matches teams of volunteers from businesses, schools, faith communities, and community groups with non-profit agencies and others unable to help themselves in Mahaska County who are in need of hands-on help. Now it is time to put together a team of volunteers from your company or organization and join the 2008 Day of Caring taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The projects are expected to take from three to six hours to complete. All volunteer team members will receive a LIVE UNITED T-shirt that recognizes them for their volunteer efforts. “We hope we can count on local businesses and community organizations to participate in this event. On behalf of the nonprofit agencies and others who are living united in Mahaska County, we thank you for lending a helping hand,” United Way Executive Director Jill Dursky said. If you are interested in participating in our special day, contact the United Way of Mahaska County office at (641) 673-6043. Teams and individuals need to be registered no later than Aug. 15.
